Ivory takes place in July of 1582, during the height of Japan’s warring states period. It is the story of two masterless samurai and their quest to meet the legendary warlord, Oda Nobunaga.

Very little is known about Golden Fox’s past, and he seems to not only prefer it that way, but he actively engineers circumstances to obscure it. All that is known is that Golden Fox is that he is clearly the son of a Japanese parent and a foreigner (most likely Portuguese), and he has an impeccable gift for diplomacy and persuasion.

In fact, the most unsettling thing about Golden Fox is that he never seems to be emotional, surprised, or even rude. The loss of his comrades on the battlefield will at most provoke a terse reprimand. If Golden Fox is no longer smiling, however, gunsmoke won't be far behind.

Golden Fox appeared almost out of nowhere in the summer of 1571 and offered his services to Takeda Shingen. Although he was rebuked, Golden Fox returned to offer his services every day until the summer of 1572. In that time, he never once broke etiquette, became angry, or gave the slightest hint of frustration.

One year later, Takeda Shingen finally accepted Golden Fox into the clan. From that day forward, Golden Fox not only became one of the Takeda’s most valuable diplomats, but also one of its most gifted strategists.
