Ivory takes place in July of 1582, during the height of Japans warring states period. It is the story of two masterless samurai and their quest to meet the legendary warlord, Oda Nobunaga.
Jade Mantis was a former Buddhist warrior-monk from the Enryaku-ji monastery. At 14, he was also one of the youngest warriors to serve under the Takeda. He had a cheerful demeanor, and is the only known person who could make Ivory Dragon laugh out of joy.
Jade Mantis only appears in flashbacks. He was a former monk and one of the only survivors of Oda Nobunagas massacre of the Enryaku-ji monastery in 1571. The Takeda clan recruited him at the age of 10, after he defeated one of their patrol units with nothing but a stick of bamboo. He was one of Ivory Dragons fellow officers under the Takeda, and the closest thing Ivory had to a protégé during her youth.
Jade Mantis was killed in the 1575 Battle of Nagashino, soon after Ivory defected from the Takeda. Ivory is, as yet, unaware of his demise.
